How does therapy work?

Therapy is a time that you set aside to work on problem areas in your life. It is a space where you can feel seen and heard as you develop a therapeutic relationship of trust and safety with your Therapist.  The Therapist will facilitate the healing process by providing tools, skills and activities that help get to the root of the symptoms that are causing distress.  You will work alongside your therapist to create attainable goals and be in control of your process.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of time that you spend in therapy is totally up to you! At Serenity, we recommend weekly sessions in the beginning of your process as you will need to unpack and unload issues and concerns.  Many clients move to bi-weekly when they feel there symptoms and struggles have decreased significantly.

Therapy is for as long as you want it to be.  Remember, therapy is not just for times of crisis but can be viewed as a maintenance tool  to remain in good mental health.

What if I need Medication?

There are times that some reactions to life circumstances require the use of medication. If you believe that this is something you may need, a referral will be made to a Psychiatrist for an evaluation and prescribing of medication. If you are NOT interested in medication, more holistic approaches can be explored within the Therapist scope of work. We have tons of resources to guide you toward the right direction in this area.
